Create a Company in Agriculture in Cyprus

The Cypriot agriculture features small farms, with more than 89% of holdings being under five hectares, quite old farmers, with only 1.7% of them being under 35 years of age, and represents an important contribution to the local economy. Our lawyers in Cyprus can offer their assistance in starting a business in Cyprus in the agriculture sector.

The Correct Agricultural Code of Practice in Cyprus

The Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment is partially responsible for protecting the waters from agriculturally sourced nitrate pollution, as well as for the appropriate application of the Correct Agricultural Code of Practice.

This Code comprises the right administration of stockbreeding waste disposal to protect the waters from being polluted with nitrate. It consists of four parts which have to be respected by any company in the agriculture sector in Cyprus:

  • The Code of Practice for Fertilizer Use;
  • The Code of Practice for Stockbreeding Waste Disposal;
  • The Code of Practice for Processed Water Use;
  • The Code of Practice for Agricultural Use of Sludge;
  • Two other Codes: our Cypriot lawyers can offer further details on what these other two codes consist of.

You can also count on us if you want to buy real estate in this country. Once you’ve found a property you’re interested in, ask the real estate agent for a contract of sale. A copy of the property title, any local planning certifications, a sewerage diagram, the general terms and conditions, inclusions and exclusions (such as fixtures and fittings), and any specific conditions should all be included in the contract of sale. You can also rely on our lawyers for support if you want to buy a property in Cyprus.

Obtaining the agricultural license in Cyprus

If you want to work as an agriculturist in Cyprus, you will have to obtain the appropriate license from the Council of Agriculturists in the country. Our attorneys in Cyprus can help you obtain such a license, upon request.

Citizens of the European Union, though, and legal persons who reside in a European Union State and want to provide their services on a temporary basis or circumstantially in the country, do not have to get this type of license.

If that is the case, all they have to do is to inform the Council and they will be registered in the Special Registry of Agronomists who Provide Services. Our lawyers in Cyprus can give you more information on this subject.
